About Mik

Mikhail “Mik” Pappas, Esq. is an innocence defense and civil rights attorney with a background in community organizing. He was raised in East Liberty during tough times, but found balance through sports and by visiting his grandmother in central Pennsylvania’s farm country every summer. Mik attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and Central Catholic High School, where he was a competitive athlete and debater.

Mik majored in American Studies and minored in Economics at Lehigh University in eastern Pennsylvania. Mik moved back to Pittsburgh after college, to be with friends and family, and to gain experience as a community organizer before pursuing his dream of attending law school. As an organizer, Mik worked on campaigns throughout the country, including in Newark, New Orleans, and Chicago.

Always staying true to his roots, Mik founded a youth mentoring program in the Negley Place section of East Liberty where he grew up. When Mik became the Pennsylvania Field and Policy Director for the League of Young Voters, he led voter education and registration drives in low-income neighborhoods and jails in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

For six years before and during law school, Mik served as Policy Director to State Senator Jim Ferlo, where he played a key role in advancing single payer healthcare legislation, preventing the closure of West Penn Hospital in Bloomfield, and raising millions to support innovative community projects such as the Energy Innovation Center in the Hill District.

Mik earned a Certificate in International and Comparative Law from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. As an attorney, Mik has developed a successful practice that is consistent with his progressive values – standing up for the poor, the struggling, the oppressed, and the accused. He is an Associate Attorney with the law firm Gross and Patterson, LLC.

Mik and his wife, Paola, live in Highland Park with their 7 year old son, Alex, and their infant daughter, Maia.
